With a name like Sugarland, your expectations should be pretty high. But it ain’t all about just sweets at Sugarland, no sir! Throw in some coffee and alkyhol and you’ve got something that will keep one of your vices happy here! Decked out in pale blue in homage to its Chapel Hill origins, Sugarland Raleigh is located in busy Cameron Village next to Bevello. A perfect spot for an afternoon treat or after dinner dessert, Sugarland might put out some of the best cupcakes around!
Step inside Sugarland and you’ll find a large open cafe with a long display case and counter in back. They’ve got a smallish selection of baked goods on the right, a large selection of gelato’s in the middle and the coffee-liquor on the left. Sugarland’s gelatos are quite good: creamy-smooth and packed with flavor. Just a little bit pricey for what you get so I have to admit to preferring their baked goods. I’ve bought several dozen cupcakes for work and they always disappear quickly. With flavors like chocolate sundae, mimosa, double chocolate, spumoni, toasted coconut and more, Sugarland’s cupcakes are more about taste and quality versus size. They’re a touch on the small side but are dee-licious! Moist cake, smooth buttercream frosting sometimes punctuated with some great filling. Not a giant, grainy-frosting covered behemoth but a well-baked and flavorful treat. And don’t miss 1/2 price Tuesday’s where dine-in customers can save a lot on their snacks.
I have yet to try their adult beverages here but I’m sure they do a decent job. Service is pretty solid at Sugarland but the place is slowly getting popular with Cameron Village shoppers. That certainly shouldn’t stop you from popping in to feed your sweet-tooth next time you’re in Cameron Village. Because yes, Sugarland is oh so sweet, bon appetit!
